Smartphones & Tablets
For iOS (iPhone, iPad)
Step 1: Back up your data
Before embarking on the reset journey, safeguard your precious data. While many smartphones automatically sync to online services like iCloud or Google, it's always wise to perform a manual backup. This ensures that your photos, apps, contacts, and other essential information are stored safely.
Step 2: Perform a factory reset
A factory reset is the cornerstone of preparing your device for trade-in. This process erases all personal data and returns the device to its default settings. The method varies slightly depending on your device's operating system:
- Back up your device using iCloud or iTunes.
- Sign out of iCloud and the iTunes & App Store.
- Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
- Enter your passcode when prompted.
- Confirm the reset and wait for the process to complete.
Step 3: Signing out of iCloud
If you no longer use a device, you can remove it from your account to prevent it from appearing in your list of devices. When the device comes back online, it will reappear in the list if Activation Lock is enabled (for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple Watch) or if it is paired with your iOS or iPadOS device (for AirPods or a Beats product).
- Ensure the device is powered off. The device must be offline before you can remove it from the list of devices.
- Sign in via iCloud.com.
- In 'Find My' on iCloud.com, select the device from the 'All Devices' list on the left. If you have already selected a device, you can click 'All Devices' to return to the list and choose a new device.
- Click the 'Remove This Device' button.
Note: You can also remove your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac by disabling iCloud entirely on that device. When you turn off iCloud, all iCloud features on the device will be disabled.
For Android (Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc.)

Before embarking on the reset journey, safeguard your precious data. While many smartphones automatically sync to online services like iCloud or Google, it's always wise to perform a manual backup. This ensures that your photos, apps, contacts, and other essential information are stored safely.
Step 2. Perform a factory reset
- Back up your device using built-in options or third-party apps.
- Ensure the device is charged or plugged in.
- Navigate to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset).
- Enter your PIN if prompted.
- Confirm the reset and wait for the phone to complete the process.
Step 3: Signing out of your Google Account
Logging out of your Google Account on a device you no longer use:
- Go to your Google account.
- In the left navigation pane, select Security.
- In the Your devices panel, select Manage all devices.
- Select the device and click Sign out.
- If you see multiple sessions with the same device name, these may be from the same device or different devices. To ensure no account access on a device, log out of all sessions with that device name.
